cozy hot toddy recipe - featured image

A warm and comforting hot toddy made with bourbon, honey, fresh lemon juice, and a cinnamon stick, perfect for chilly evenings and cozy nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ounces bourbon whiskey (e.g., Buffalo Trace or Maker’s Mark)
  • 4 ounces hot water (freshly boiled, not boiling)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (raw or local preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)
  • 1 cinnamon stick per serving
  • Optional garnish: lemon wheel or twist

Instructions

  1. Boil 4 ounces of water until steaming hot but not boiling vigorously.
  2. Warm the mug by pouring a little hot water in, swirling, then discarding the water.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice to the warmed mug and stir briefly.
  4. Pour in the hot water and stir gently until the honey dissolves, about 30 seconds.
  5. Measure and add 2 ounces bourbon to the mug and stir gently to combine.
  6. Insert one cinnamon stick into the mug and let it steep for 1-2 minutes before sipping.
  7. Optionally garnish with a lemon wheel or twist on the rim.
  8. Enjoy warm and sip slowly.

Notes

Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Avoid boiling water directly on honey or bourbon to prevent bitterness. Cinnamon stick can be toasted lightly for stronger flavor. If honey is thick, warm it briefly before adding. Adjust bourbon amount or add more hot water to taste. Let toddy sit a few minutes for flavors to meld but drink before it cools too much.
