Ingredients

  • Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • Garlic Powder

  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • Vegetable Oil (canola or sunflower) for frying
  • For the Marinara Sauce:
  • Crushed Tomatoes (canned or fresh)
  • Minced Garlic
  • Olive Oil (extra virgin preferred)

  • Dried Oregano
  • Salt

  • Pinch of Sugar

Instructions

  1. Unwrap mozzarella sticks and pat dry with paper towels. Cut each stick in half for bite-size pieces.
  2. Set up breading station: place flour in first bowl, beaten eggs in second bowl, and mix bread crumbs, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in third bowl.
  3. Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, shake off excess, dip into beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumb mixture. Repeat egg and breadcrumb coating once more for extra crispiness.
  4. Place breaded sticks on parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to prevent cheese leakage during frying.
  5. Make marinara sauce: heat olive oil in saucepan over medium heat, sauté minced garlic until fragrant (~30 seconds), add crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Heat oil in deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot mozzarella sticks with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
