A quick and easy homemade snack combining wholesome oats, walnuts, dried apple pieces, and warm cinnamon for a crunchy, cozy treat perfect for snacking or topping yogurt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (270g)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (120g)
  • 1 cup unsweetened dried apple pieces (100g)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (60ml)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce (60ml)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, chopped walnuts, dried apple pieces, ground cinnamon, and sea salt. Stir thoroughly.
  3. In a separate small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, applesauce, olive oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry mix and stir gently but thoroughly until every oat and nut is coated. Add more oats if mixture feels too wet.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the baking sheet and press down gently but firmly to form clusters.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, pressing the granola down again halfway through (around 15 minutes). Watch for golden edges without burning.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet to allow clusters to harden.
  8. Once cooled, break granola into clusters of desired size and store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

Press the granola firmly before baking to help clusters stick together. Cool completely before breaking to avoid crumbling. Store in airtight container away from moisture to maintain crunch. Use certified gluten-free oats for gluten-free version. Maple syrup and olive oil make this recipe vegan-friendly.
