A quick and easy red wine sangria with brandy and fresh citrus that is perfect for any occasion, offering a refreshing and fruity drink with a warm brandy twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml / 25.4 fl oz) fruity, medium-bodied red wine (e.g., Spanish Tempranillo or Garnacha)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml / 2 fl oz) brandy
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml / 4 fl oz) freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium lime, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste; can substitute honey or agave)
  • 1 cup (240 ml / 8 fl oz) sparkling water or club soda, added before serving
  • Fresh fruit for garnish (optional): berries, apple slices, or pineapple chunks

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the orange, lemon, and lime about 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick and set aside.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the sugar with freshly squeezed orange juice and stir until the sugar dissolves completely (about 2 minutes).
  3. Pour in the entire bottle of red wine and the 1/4 cup of brandy. Stir gently to blend.
  4. Add all the sliced citrus fruits to the pitcher.
  5. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.
  6. Just before serving, gently stir in 1 cup of sparkling water or club soda for a refreshing fizz.
  7. Serve over ice in glasses and garnish with extra fresh fruit pieces, mint sprig, or a cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Use a fruity, medium-bodied red wine like Tempranillo or Garnacha for best flavor. Let the sangria chill for at least 4 hours to allow flavors to meld. Add sparkling water only before serving to keep fizz fresh. Adjust sugar and brandy to taste. Fresh citrus peel adds aroma and complexity. Store leftovers refrigerated up to 2 days; add sparkling water before serving again.
