Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 8 oz thick egg noodles or spaghetti

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add noodles and cook according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and fully cooked (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess grease.
  3. Lower heat to medium. Add sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the skillet. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, water or beef broth, and red pepper flakes. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the beef and stir to combine.
  5. Let the sauce simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  6. Add cooked noodles to the skillet and toss until coated in the sauce and heated through (about 2-3 minutes).
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

For a gluten-free option, use tamari or coconut aminos and gluten-free noodles. Adjust seasoning to taste and add vegetables like carrots or snap peas for extra crunch.
