A quick and easy breakfast bowl combining creamy cottage cheese with fresh orange zest and juice, drizzled with natural honey for a bright, wholesome start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) fresh small-curd cottage cheese
  • 1 medium orange (zest and juice)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (1530 ml) honey (raw or local preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) chia seeds (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (15 g) toasted almonds (optional)
  • A few fresh mint leaves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the orange thoroughly. Zest about 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of the orange peel, avoiding the white pith.
  2. Cut the orange in half and juice it to yield about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of fresh orange juice.
  3. Place 1 cup (240 ml) of fresh small-curd cottage cheese in a mixing bowl. Add the freshly squeezed orange juice and gently stir to combine, keeping the curds intact.
  4. Transfer the cottage cheese mixture to a serving bowl. Drizzle 1 to 2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) of honey over the top.
  5. Sprinkle the orange zest evenly on top. If using, add chia seeds and toasted almonds for crunch and nutrition.
  6. Garnish with a few fresh mint leaves and serve immediately or chill for 10 minutes if preferred cooler.

Notes

Use small-curd cottage cheese for creamier texture. Avoid overmixing to keep curds intact. Toast almonds in a dry pan over medium heat for 3-4 minutes if using. Adjust honey to taste to avoid overpowering the orange flavor. For dairy-free, substitute cottage cheese with thick coconut or almond yogurt. Store leftovers covered in fridge up to 24 hours and stir gently before eating. Best served chilled or at room temperature.
