A quick and delicious smoked salmon bagel with a creamy dill spread that balances smoky, tangy, and fresh flavors, perfect for busy mornings or casual brunches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 fresh everything or plain bagels, sliced in half
  • 68 ounces thinly sliced fresh smoked salmon
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh dill
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon capers, drained (optional)
  • ¼ small red onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, chopped fresh dill, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  2. Slice bagels in half and toast until golden brown and slightly crisp, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Spread a generous layer of the creamy dill spread on each toasted bagel half.
  4. Layer 3-4 ounces of smoked salmon on the bottom halves of the bagels.
  5. Sprinkle capers evenly over the salmon, then add thin slices of red onion.
  6. Optionally, add a fresh dill sprig or a squeeze of extra lemon juice before placing the top halves of the bagels on.
  7. Serve immediately while warm for best flavor and texture.

Notes

Soften cream cheese at room temperature for about 10 minutes for easier spreading. Adjust salt based on the saltiness of smoked salmon. Fresh dill is essential for best flavor. Toast bagels until just golden for ideal texture. Dill spread can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 days. Store bagels and salmon separately to avoid sogginess.
