Italian Sub Squares - featured image

Layers of savory deli meats, gooey melted cheese, and flaky crescent dough come together in this hearty and comforting baked dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent dough sheets
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 ounces salami
  • 6 ounces ham
  • 6 ounces pepperoni
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup banana peppers (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg, beaten with a splash of water (egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish lightly with cooking spray or oil.
  2. Roll out one crescent dough sheet and press it into the bottom of the dish, ensuring it covers the entire base evenly.
  3. Layer half of the provolone slices over the dough, followed by the salami, ham, and pepperoni.
  4. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella evenly over the meats.
  5. Add banana peppers (if using) and a light sprinkle of Italian seasoning.
  6. Repeat the layering process with the remaining provolone, meats, and mozzarella.
  7. Top with the second crescent dough sheet, stretching it to cover the fillings completely.
  8. Brush the top with egg wash to ensure a golden, shiny crust.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and flaky.
  10. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing into squares. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

[‘Keep crescent dough cold for easier handling.’, ‘Layer evenly to ensure consistent flavor in every bite.’, “Don’t skip the egg wash for a golden crust.”, ‘Let the dish cool slightly before slicing for cleaner cuts.’, ‘Customize the seasoning or add red pepper flakes for extra heat.’]
